Satellite Beach sits on a barrier island between the Atlantic and the Indian River, and everything we plant or lay here is chosen for salt. Salt spray burns the wrong plants in a single season and wears down unsealed stone and screen far faster than on the mainland.
Our island approach is different from our mainland approach: salt-tolerant plant palettes, sealed pavers and stone, and a paver base set for island sand and a high water table.

What we plan around in Satellite Beach
| Salt spray and wind burn | Ocean-facing beds need salt-tolerant plants: sea grape, coontie, saw palmetto, silver buttonwood, muhly grass. Otherwise you'll be replanting every year. |
|---|---|
| Screen that wears out fast | Salt air and sun break down screen material quicker on the island. We re-screen existing frames, a panel at a time or all at once. |
| High water table | Standard mainland base depths don't always fit. We set paver base and pitch around island soil, not mainland assumptions. |
Questions we get in Satellite Beach
What plants survive salt spray in Satellite Beach?
Sea grape, saw palmetto, coontie, silver buttonwood, muhly grass, sabal palm and beach sunflower are our workhorses. We put less tolerant plants behind a windbreak or on the side of the house away from the ocean.
Should pavers be sealed this close to the ocean?
We recommend it. Sealing helps pavers and stone shrug off salt and keeps joint sand in place. We clean and re-seal when the finish wears.
Can you re-screen my existing porch or pool screen?
Yes. Full re-screens or single-panel replacement on existing frames throughout Satellite Beach. We repair frames and build new enclosures too.
